The Boy Scouts are a new venture for Glynlea Grace United Methodist Church. The concept was thought of during our September revival program and with the Lords help came to actuality October 3, 2009 when the new Boy Scout Committee met to set the initial program for the scouts and then signed the Boy Scout Charter with the North Florida Council, Boy Scouts of America on October 4, 2009.
The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) provides a program for young people that builds character, trains them in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and develops personal fitness. The Boy Scouts of America is one of the nation's largest and most prominent values-based youth development organizations. For nearly a century, the BSA has helped build the future leaders of this country by combining educational activities and lifelong values with fun. The Boy Scouts of America believes — and, through nearly a century of experience, knows — that helping youth is a key to building a more conscientious, responsible, and productive society. To request more information CLICK HERE Adult and youth applications are available from either the Church Office during officer hours or from the Scoutmaster after business hours. National Dues are $15.00 per year and are pro-rated based on time left in the year. National Dues go to the National Organization not to the local Troop. Donations to the troop can be made to either the charter organization, Committee chair or Scoutmaster/Asst. Scoutmaster(s). Funds received are used to purchase equipment for the troop or other operation costs such as Charter Fees, Insurance for the troop, Merit Badge research material and other needs. Scout Meetings are every Saturday at 4 pm. We meet at the rear of the church in the Fellowship Hall starting at 3:30 pm and run until approx 5:30 PM. Scout (Boy) leaders may meet after meetings for 30 min to 1 hour for planning sessions. All Boy Scout meetings are Boy run but Adult Supervised. All registered adults go through a background check and training approved by BSA to include Youth Protection Training. All other adults will have a back ground check done by the church prior to the adult participating in any overnight event. At least one (1) trained adult will be with the scouts at all meetings and two (2) trained adults at all outings involving the scouts. Contact the Scoutmaster or Committee Chair for schedule of Committee meetings. Next Committee meeting will be around December 2009. If you have any questions regarding the Scouts or Scout Program, Please contact the Scoutmaster, Committee Chair or Charter Organization.
