Upward Sports is the world’s largest Christian sports program for children.
Glynlea Grace United Methodist Church (GGUMC) is partnering with Upward Sports to launch a new program called Upward Soccer. Upward Sports is the world’s largest Christian sports program for children (K5-6th grade). Each year some 1 million people around the world play, coach, referee, or volunteer in Upward Sports leagues and camps hosted by more than 2,600 churches.
All children, regardless of faith, can participate. The goal is to bring out “the winner” in every child. To learn more about Upward Sports, visit their web site at www.upward.org.
Upward Soccer will emphasize character development by promoting healthy competition. Each child will be placed on a team according to his/her skill level in order to establish teams of equal strength and abilities. In addition, each child will have the same amount of play time throughout the year. This will create an even playing field. There’ll be no team dominating the other teams. Good sportsmanship will thrive in this environment.
Children will receive many benefits from the Upward Soccer experience. They’ll learn conflict resolution, selflessness and respect as they develop love for each other as members of a team. Every practice and game will include a devotion designed to teach Christian values. In addition to all this, the children will receive a sound foundation in soccer skills that will prepare them for middle and senior high school soccer.
In order to make this a reality, we need both men and women to be dedicated coaches. The coaches will have the biggest influence on the kids. Not only will they teach soccer skills, they will also provide the most noticeable Christ like example for the children to follow. During each practice, they’ll be expected to lead the children in a time of prayer and devotion. This is a wonderful opportunity to introduce kids to Jesus Christ.
You don’t have to be a soccer expert.
Upward Sports will provide everything you need to know to be an effective coach. You’ll be provided with a coach’s kit that includes information on the rules of the game, how to organize practices and how to conduct soccer drills. The coach’s kit also includes the devotions that you will give at each practice. There’s also a coach’s website that provides a plethora of information. If you are willing to take the time to pray and read all the materials, you can become an extremely effective coach.
If you are interested in becoming a coach, please contact the Glynlea Grace United Methodist Church office at (904) 724-6272 or

Please be in prayer for this worthwhile ministry.
